STONE EDGE COLLECTION
NENDO - CAESARSTONE

Stone Edge collection is a set of side tables designed to express the surface strength of Caesarstone, a material made of grained quartz. Rather than ostentatiously using the material for the entire product, Nendo created wooden tables, then protected the tabletop corners and feet – the elements of a table most likely to be damaged – with Caesarstone. The seven different tables vary slightly in size and proportions, and each employ a different type of Caesarstone.

EDITION BLUE SOFA
NENDO - AKIMOKU

Nendo has just designed a new furniture collection designed for Edition Blue by Otsuka that takes advantage of the unique techniques and skills of Akimoku (Akita Mokko), Japan’s only specialist bentwood furniture maker. He has selected a number of pieces from the firm’s 102-year archive, then has modified them to emphasise the charm of the bentwood details, simplify parts to reduce costs and add new functionality.

The process of reforming and updating aimed to bring out the distinctive nature of the existing designs, while keeping down costs such as new metal molds and fixtures. So the designer and the makers turned the legs of a stool upside down and used them as the legs for a low table, and reused the legs of a dining table as the legs for a workbench-style table. They painted the top of the backrest for the Akimoku Windsor chair in a variety of colours from the 720mm mark upwards, the height of a dining table. This retains the simple, natural finish of the chairs, but provides an unexpected visual delight when the chairs are pulled together at the table. Nendo also changed the fabric for sofa cushions and made them reversible.

MOCHI
HELLA JONGERIUS - VITRA

The new seating option Mochi is suitable both as a piece of furniture and as a colourful accessory in all kinds of living areas. Like all designs of Hella Jongerius, Mochi bears the clear signature of the Dutch designer: The soft seating furniture with its loving details and various contrasting colour combinations makes a bold statement in any living environment. Mochi is both a spontaneous seating option and a decorative ottoman for lounge chairs and sofas. Mochi is initially a special japanese rice paste, used to prepare a traditional cake of the same name. It is their round, colorful and playful appearance, as well as their characteristic softness that inspired the name of the new pouf. The knit-to-fit cover was specially developed for Mochi and is easy to remove and clean. Thanks to the robust floor cover, the pouf can be used everywhere.

GRADIENT TABLE LAMP
STUDIO WM

Wendy Legro and Maarten Collignon are the founders of Studio WM - a design studio based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. They work in the field of furniture, lighting and interior design with self-commissioned projects and in collaboration with other companies. The two started working together right after graduation at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009, as they discovered their different specializations complement each other very well. WM’s aim is to fuse functionality with aesthetic form. Inspired by flora and fauna they focus on every detail to bring life into design.

Inspired by antique oil lamps and candleholders, these table lamps play with light through reflection. A LED light source is situated inside the porcelain pedestals and shine upwards, illuminating the reflector that shows a diffused glimmer of light. Using reflection, a soft feeling is given to the rising technology of relatively sharp LED light.

"A FLEUR DE PEAU"
YMER & MALTA

Autre point fort de l’exposition : le made in France.

YMER&MALTA presents its third collective exhibition entitled YMER&MALTA Skin-deep. Reiterating the experience of the single material exhibition « Marbre Poids Plume », Valérie Maltaverne gave carte blanche to 5 designers to come up with daring, poetic and inspired pieces. “ I wanted to give the designers the free creative space that only a gallery can offer ”. No constraints then, but an incessant search for the perfect line and the use of leather as material of reference.

Leather, an integral part of the world of interiors, is a natural but luxurious material. It is a symbol of strength and power, but nevertheless remains soft and sensual. Firm or silky to the touch, its odour can be unique, present. Its flower is alive. Throughout time, leather wears, wrinkles, and adds character. “ I wanted a federating material. One that was both familiar but the offered new and interesting perspectives to the designers ” explains Valérie Maltaverne.

Another mark in favour of this exhibition : everything is made in France. The entire collection was created using Paris-region craftsmen and women, thanks to the amazing breeding ground of talent available in Paris. Through a series of objects and pieces of furniture, the designers A + A Cooren, Benjamin Graindorge, Sebastian Bergne, Normal Studio and Sylvain Rieu-Piquet deliver their own interpretation of leather. They play with our senses, with the contrast in textures, colours, grains but also the supple and the hard, exploring all possible options of leather as a material.

UNAM
GERVASONI

Unam is a comfortable lounge chair in solid wood designed by Sebastian Herkner. Inspired by the pragmatic projects by Jean Jeanneret in India, the designer has transferred these concepts into his own design language. The product features clean lines and authentic materials and it is based on traditional manual ability and aesthetics revisited with a contemporary spirit. The Unam chair is a place in which one can relax and forget about all external influences.

The coupling of materials and proportions emanate a sense of protection and safety. The structure of the chair is made up of simple wooden elements that recall traditional wooden constructions. The two arched elements that serve as front legs and the arms say a lot about its design and character. This latter is available in two finishes, one woven and one covered. The combination between traditional elements such as the curve and the twine and their articulation into a modern design make Unam an interesting and extremely readable piece of furniture.

WIRE TABLE
IACOLI MCALLISTER

Jamie Iacoli & Brian McAllister are American designers from Seattle. They really like to make things, and spend a lot of time thinking about beauty, quality and style. They are pretty driven to perfect their craft - that of proportion, scale, color, and fabrication. They are also only interested in making this stuff in the U.S. Their process is one part exploration, one part learning curve, one part affection, one part sheer strife, and "one part caffeine". Their work has recently been featured in Wallpaper*, Elle Decor UK, Sight Unseen, Dossier Magazine, The New York Times, the NYT Style Magazine, Dwell, Fast Company, Vogue Home... The new minimal, functional Wire Side Table comes in colours (pink, mint, tomato, aqua, white, hammertone, black), brass or copper.

CANDY LIGHT 2
HAYON - BACCARAT

Spaniard Jaime Hayon is a designer whose talent and exuberance are now intimately connected with Baccarat’s DNA as he designed the very successful Crystal Candy Set collection. The New Candy Light small lamp (smaller than the previous one) takes up once again the perfect combination of ceramic and crystal and the purity and elegance of affirmed design. This lamp can be used in a variety of ways, including as a desk lamp.

WEIGHT HERE
KIBISI - MENU

Weight Here is a family of candleholders featuring distinct historic references to the iconic typology of chamber candlesticks and candelabras. The designs revisit the standard candlestick appearance and dimensions, and are natural extensions of these made to fit today’s candles. Weight Here comes in four versions: S and M for ordinary candles and L & XL for block candles. The cast iron parts acknowledge historic artisanal techniques and the Polystone references KiBiSi’s link to modern architecture. These materials provide the candlesticks with a grounded feel and a solid no-nonsense appearance.

TURN AROUND
KIBISI - MUUTO

Muuto’s Hang Around and Toss Around get a little ponderous cousin: Turn Around - a wooden hand held juicer. Turn Around brings back juicing to its tactile origin by the nordic hyper analogue design. The wooden one-type-only material is easily recyclable and hopefully sufficiently aesthetically sustainable to be kept and passed on.
